Modern Manufacturing Trends: AI, Machine Learning and the Future of Computing Technology

Trends Beginning in 2017

Machine learning and artificial intelligence has evolved a great deal in the past few years. As it’s already been more than a decade since IBM’s supercomputer achieved victory against the best chess player in the world, advanced computer systems have evolved beyond their normal function, and in the world of manufacturing, their contributions are now an integral part of the entire manufacturing process.

With the help of machine learning and the recent advancements in computer science, engineers are able to better calculate what impacts the efficiency of the production chain and which aspects have to be tweaked or modified. Smart factories such as those that design and make brass hose fittings for machinery are able to improve production efficiency by more than 20% as a result, and the problem of sacrificing quality for manufacturing efficiency is no longer something that most manufacturers have to deal with on a larger scale.

Sensors and robots have become the eyes and hands of the laborers, and with the help of advanced machine learning, the robotics necessary for advanced manufacturing has led to rapid advancements in all areas and sectors. Today, the best paid workers are those who can manage and repair smart machinery and work with complex coding to make sure all systems are operating at peak efficiency.
